The Key Of Time - Part One

Tangled In Time....

The Wizard was Worried, Dear Readers. He had watched as the World grew steadily less and less organized. Nothing stayed put. It was as if the Door to Chaos had been opened and the layers of Time had become Entangled, shadows and events mingled and Eras no longer moved forward in an orderly progression. There were layers of Time crowded together in one place.....

Items that didn't belong would appear together and pile upon each other......
And ghostly specters would pass through... From one Time to another....

From one Era to another... as if unaware that anything was amiss.
But the Wizard was aware. And it Troubled him deeply.
Because he thought he knew the reason why....
Someone had left the Door to Time Open....
And the Little Dreamers had strayed through...!

Some of you may recall that the last time you saw The Little Dreamers
they had arrived at Rose Thorn Cottage to stay with Great Aunt Agatha
after they had Rescued the Wizard.
But Great Aunt Agatha had forgotten to tell the Little Dreamers
Not to look too deeply into the mirror in the bedroom.

To the ordinary visitor, it was just a beautiful old Mirror.

But to those who had Experienced Enchantment......

It was a Portal to Other Places.....
And Other Times!
And So the Little Dreamers found themselves
in a place that was familiar....
but not anywhere they had ever been before.

It appeared to be the Castle in another Time....
But they were young enough that they could not really tell.
It was Wonderfully comfortable.
And sometimes they would see other people there....

There were some Beautiful Ladies in beautiful old fashioned gowns....

But it seemed as though the ladies could not see the Little Dreamers....
and didn't know they were there at all!

So they wandered freely through the Castle.....

And into other Ages.....

Finding the most amazing Treasures......

Discovering the most unimaginable worlds.....

Seeing..... yet not being seen.....

Finding.... yet not being found....

Wandering in realms they had never known before....

Lost in Dreams.....

But Whose Dreams were they?

And they were not the only ones who had Strayed....
You may remember that the Little Dolls had gone wandering too...
And were ensconced in the Tree House with Anna Maria and Samuel Whiskers...

Who were growing tired of feeding the Little Dolls.....

And of finding them asleep, uninvited, in the Nursery Bed Alcove!

Samuel Whiskers and Anna Maria decided it was Time
the Little Dolls found somewhere else to "visit"...

So they took them to the Castle....
and then they left in a hurry!

It wasn't long before the Little Dolls were happily ensconced on the sofa....
They felt right at home!

And let's not forget Tiny Bear.....

Who went riding with a Warrior Bear.....

And ended up In the Cloud Palace!

Yes, It seemed as though the Doors of Time were Open....
And the Wizard was deeply concerned!

Someone needed to Find the Little Dreamers and bring them safely back....
And the Wizard could not take the Journey!
He knew Where they were....
but not When they were....!
But there was One who he thought would be able to find them....
Their brother Peregrine, who knew them so well.
And the Wizard knew where to find their Brother!

Peregrine awoke with a start. The bedroom was not familiar.
He was staying with his Uncles Brandon and Carmichael,
and had gone straight to bed after Trick or Treating in the neighborhood.
He tried not to be too alarmed when he saw the Wizard standing at the foot of his bed!

He knew what Wizards were.....
he had read The Hobbit.....

The Wizard said "Do not be afraid...."
"I need you to come to the Castle to help find your sisters...."

Perry got quickly out of bed and put his Halloween costume back on.
He had been a Viking Warrior for 'Trick or Treat'.
He definitely thought his costume would help him feel brave....

The Wizard held out his hand....
"I am giving you this Key..." he said.
"It will be your guide."
"You must be sure to Remember to Not go through
Any Door which this key cannot open...." said the Wizard solemnly.
Peregrine just nodded his head and reached for the Key.

To Be Continued......

  1. OH Dear,
I do hope Perry is up to the challenge and that he listened carefully to the Wizards instructions or things could really get chaotic!

  2. I think I would be just a little bit alarmed if I woke up to find a wizard at the end of my bed. It sounds like Peregrine is off on an adventure.

  4. Hello Betsey,
I love your stories. They always enchant me and transport me into your little world. The one thing that jumps out at me are your castle rooms. They are so fantastic! they look beautiful, realistically aged, grand...I am just blown away by your work each and every time. the wizards room in the first picture especially delights me with the great globe. You really are an amazing miniaturist and I love your work. I wish I had a magic mirror or key that could take me to your castle and visit...
    Big hug,

  5. Wow!
A spooky story! And beautifully rendered - do I recognize the dresses on the little dreamers? Evocative...
    Happy Halloween,

  6. Ahhhh... I was hoping soooooo much for another Halloween post... and here it is - and the little dreamers are back! It's strange, but their last appearance doesn't seem to be that far away... time really flies - and now I know why: The door to time is open! What a relief that the wizard is aware of what's going on - and I bet Perry with his Viking outfit will find his sisters and everything will turn out well. I mean, that has to be - everything has to turn out well at Halloween, right? You spoiled us with another wonderful story and beautiful pictures - especially the illuminated wall paintings at Father Alban's are breathtaking. I bet there will be some loose ends tied together at Halloween... must be because in your Halloween posts you are present yourself, not only as one of the little dreamers, but of course as the one who is the dreamer in person ("But whose dreams were they" - brilliant!!!). Thank you for making my day!

    Hugs

  7. Hi Betsy! I think it must be wonderful if you can travel unseen through all sorts of worlds without being harmed, or without feeling unsafe. For seeing all those Worlds with my own eyes and being able to live in adventures I've never been......it's a nice story. Halloween is coming, it's nice to read this story about that mysterious key...:D!
