Is Breathtaking....
What can I say, Dear Readers, at this time of year when the whole world is competing for the most sumptuous displays of floral glory, and suddenly the Rhododendron is in full bloom! It steals the show, commands the worship of every eye and never ceases to amaze me! Did I really make that shrub? It is so splendid in its abundant brilliant color, there is nothing like it ever! In the Real World, the blossoms last but a week if the weather is kind (this year it was not, in my neighborhood) but here in Miniland I can allow the blossoms a longer span of display. And after the blossoming lilac shrub has bowed it's last curtain call, it is Time for the Rhododendron to shine alone on the stage..... and shine it does!
It is so overpowering,
I can almost ignore the rest of the unfinished garden!
Sigh.
Yes, the rest has seen no improvements since last year.
The rocks are mostly sort of in place the way they ultimately should be....
but no moss has come creeping in... no ferns....
no wild flowers growing up between the rocks...
but the Dreams are still there!
Those dreams of "Someday"....
and sometimes I can feel them coming closer
and teasing me with details....
oh so many details still to be accomplished!
And yet, the very fact of the Blossoming Rhododendron
is encouragement in itself!
I got it made..... the rest will have their day!
It is enough to revel in the beauty of the moment....
to admire those multi-stamened florets and
ponder the possibility of adding a bumble bee or two.....
and to acknowledge that Summer is on the doorstep....
And the Rhodie must have its moment in the sun!
I hope you don't mind, Dear Readers,
that there is nothing New to show you this week.
But the Rhododendron is in bloom, and it is so magnificent,
it just takes my breath away!
Hi Betsy! The Rhododendron is so glorious, it most certaintly deserves a blog post all to itself! It takes my breath away too. Your writing is also beautiful. This has made me feel reflective and happy.
ReplyDeleteI'm just testing to see if I can leave a comment, Betsy. Lovely rhododendron!
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy,
ReplyDeleteThe soft colors of your lilac bush suit the unfolding of spring, but the vibrant red of your rhododendron, combined with the colors of the Folly, creates an instant summer feeling. Although that is not really the case here in Belgium at the moment. We have been getting one downpour after another, often mixed with hail. Even now, as I write this, it is pouring rain. Not that I mind too much, because it is exam season (which, for me, means helping with studying), and when the sun is shining, the desire to be outside is strong.
It was not my intention to set you to work with my comments about Adam and Eve. 😉And then I gave you even more research to do with my own post! It is true that letters were folded and sealed for a long time, but from the mid-19th century onward, envelopes became available. They would have been made of thinner paper than the one I used myself, but I thought the colors were so beautiful that I decided to overlook that detail. 😊
It is truly magnificent! It inspires me to hurry up and finish my real life commitments so that I can get back to the ever blooming world of mini gardening! Whatever is calling to you next, Betsy, I hope the joy fills you to the brim!
ReplyDeleteYou have every right to be proud of yourself for having accomplished this most magnificent bloominig miniature rhododendron... even more as you also created the most magnificent blooming miniature lilac shrub too. And there's no need to apologize for not showing more than the rhodie... because after all... who would ever dare to start a competition for the stage spotlight with this glorious bush with its splendid red blossoms? However, I was lucky to spot Mr. Gnome and I wonder if he was already there when we visited to admire the lilac... well, I suppose he won't tell.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a fascinating thing how the most amazing miniature rhodie comes right after the most amazing miniature lilac... there can't be any doubt that one future time aka "Someday" there needs to bloom a rose shrub too in the garden parts that still need a bit of your attention and dedication. And it needs to be an English rose - that's how we call the roses created by David Austin - as it will bloom in New England. And after all we don't want June to be offended because May gets so much well deserved attention and we also don't want Mr. Gnome to become bored if he can't admire the beauty of more blossoms... ;O)
Hugs
