Giving Thanks....

Anyway.....

I Hope you will Understand, Dear Readers, that Thanksgiving is different this year. The pandemic has made it risky to gather... even with your loved ones, for any length of time indoors. Pollyanna had received a recorded phone message sent out by the Governor of the State saying all groups of more than ten were banned from gathering indoors! She went right to Helen with the news, because with all of them together they were eleven. Six at the Lovely Old Dollhouse, and five at Sally May and Chip's because his parents had pretty much moved in with them last summer.

"We can't all get together this year" she says to Helen.

"But what will we do..." she asks...
 "What will they do"?

"Who will cook the Turkey...?" she adds.
"We will have too much food!"

Victor and Joanna were in the kitchen discussing that very question.
"I am sure we can do a great job..." said Victor cheerfully.

"I'll start on the squash..." he added.
"You can get the bird in the oven.
Don't worry, I'll help! " he said happily.

"Good thing we baked the pies here last night....
that's the important part!"... he joked.

Pollyanna and Arthur decided the help by "staying out of the way"
otherwise known as hiding in Pollyanna's craft room in the attic.
I really need to organize things better in here thinks Pollyanna.
I just don't have the right storage spaces.

Meanwhile, Dear Readers, the problem over at Sally May and Chips house
is that the neighborhood got a little crowded last Spring when the pandemic started.

This is the place where I "work from home"....
And I will be mostly working from home again starting next week.
Our school is done for the Fall term and will
open again in February if all goes well.
I will be going in to the school office two days a week
since we do have to keep things running anyway.
But you can understand that Sally May feels a little "out of sorts".

Even with the neighboring equipment temporarily moved....
it is dark and empty feeling in the dining room where they usually gather.
She wishes she could celebrate with Her family!
Chip's family are fine... she loves them too... but it is not the same.
And they have been here all year.
She is tired and a bit depressed.
She almost doesn't want to cook!
They won't have a turkey since it is being cooked
over at the Lovely Old Dollhouse.

Chip will keep his folks entertained...
even though the house is dark and a bit cold.
One of these days he is going to have to fix that window!

Meanwhile, Joanna and Victor have cooked the feast!
"I think it is time to call everybody in" says Joanna.

"It's time to eat..." she tells Helen and Charles.

"This smells wonderful...!" says Charles.
"And it looks delicious too!" he adds.
"Well done, my dear".... he says to Joanna.

"Goodness! What a Huge bird!" says Helen.
"We will be feasting for weeks!"

"Oh, I Wish everybody could be here!" says Helen
for at least the dozenth time this day.
"But at least we know they are all safe and well..." says Charles.
That is the most important thing!
"And I am sure Sally May has cooked up a feast too..." adds Pollyanna.
"She is so good at that! We know they are not starving!"
"And we will call them when we are done says Victor."

"Let's all hold hands for the Grace now" says Charles.
And they bow their heads in silence ....
there is much to be thankful for.

And over at Sally May's she is
putting the finishing touches on their meal.
She has baked a chicken instead of the turkey
and also roasted some Venison that Chip's folks
brought as their "contribution" to the menu.

"I think it is as ready as it is going to be..." she sighs.
"It smells yummy Mummy!" says Annabelle excitedly.

"And I helped... didn't I!" she adds.
"You were a Big help" said Sally May.
"I could not have done it without you!"
"I think it is time to call the others in" she added.

"Now that looks like the kind of dinner
that makes the menfolk happy!" declares Blanche.
"Ah... we do have a lot to be thankful for!" agrees Ernie.

"Thanks, Babe..." says Chip. "I know it is hard for you not seeing your folks" he adds.
Sally May suddenly is reminded how much she does have to be Thankful for.
"Who will say Grace...?" she asks.
"Grace" shouts  Annabelle excitedly and everybody laughs.
Ernie sings the doxology and they serve the feast.
They do have so much to be thankful for!

Meanwhile, Honey and Oreo
are keeping an eye on things in the kitchen...
there are no pies.
Sally May had made a beautiful cake that she planned
to bring to The Lovely Old Dollhouse gathering.
"Are we 'guarding'...." thinks Oreo....
"or just 'watching'?"
Honey doesn't even bother to answer him.
She is trying not to drool at the thought of crumbs on plates.

Well, Dear Readers, it seems that
 Nothing is Normal this year!
But I am Giving Thanks anyway.
I do have so much to be thankful for!
And I hope you all are celebrating safely
Wherever you are!

The Trouble With Suits

Arthur's Father, The Invitation and Annabelle Revealed.....

The Trouble with Suits, Dear Readers..... is that they make me want to make almost ANYTHING ELSE but them! So I will begin tonight with a little Diversion. You may Remember that the setting of the DATE for the Wedding was being held off until Arthur's Father could be Located. He is a lepidopterist...... and travels extensively in search of new Species of butterflies to study. Everyone had Thought he was in Africa..... but it turns out he was finally located in South America deep in the Jungles!
He is here now.... may I introduce you to Harold?
Can you see the family resemblance?
(Of course, now I have ANOTHER suit to sew.....!)
Arthur is very Happy that he is here!
But PLEASE, Don't tell Celeste....
it is better that she doesn't find out until the last minute!
(I'm sure it will all work out alright....... It IS a Wedding, after all!)

So much for the Diversion...... I still have all those suits to sew!
I started in bravely on the jacket for Arthur's tuxedo..... fitting the sleeves first.
I'm sorry I didn't take any pictures of the patterns I made... I simply traced around the parts of the jacket he already owned..... the casual one..... and used that to cut the pieces for the jacket.

Formal jackets are tricky because the FIRST part you have to complete are the collar and the facings..... and you can't really test the fit until they are completely sewn! So I jumped right in! Here you can see the collar facings sewn and attached to the jacket body....... I forgot to take pictures of most of the steps... so this is really NOT a very good demonstration.....

And when I had stitched all the seams together and hemmed everything....
I tried it on Arthur.....
Only to discover that it was TOO BIG!

It really is.
It looks Terrible.

But perhaps ALL is not lost.......
Because I think it fits Will just about right!

So I started over at the beginning for Arthur......
And cut all the pieces a tiny bit smaller.....
and stitched them and hemmed them and pressed them......
and then tried them on........
And I think that looks MUCH Better!

Then I decided I had to make the buttons.......
So they really button.......

First one......

And then two......

And I think I can say I have completed One Suit!

And Will just needed some new trousers to go with the jacket.......

And I will have to do the buttons....

And that will be TWO suits completed!!

Meanwhile, I KNOW that Some of you have been wondering
WHERE your Invitation was.....
Well, until they Found Arthur's Father,
they were Reluctant to send out the Invitations!
But now that he is here,
the Invitations are ready!
And just in case they get lost in the mail for being so tiny...
I will show you here.....

And a little closer so you can read......
sorry about the blurry photo......
(And the sloppy writing....)

Inside the envelope is the Invitation......
like so.......

Maybe it IS too small to read clearly......

Here is a larger version....

(Yes, I know... it is very rustic and home-made looking.... they are all hand-lettered!)

We DO hope you will come!!!

And just because I Know you are being SO Patient,
waiting to see the gowns for the bridal party...
I will give you a Quick peek at the Flower girl.....
Annabelle is ALL dressed and waiting!

In spite of ALL the Diversions......
I STILL have more suits to sew!
They're really Quite Challenging!

That's The Trouble With Suits

Giveaway Winners!

We Have Winners - Take Two!

Dear Readers, first I want to thank you all for participating in my Giveaway.... but even more, I want to thank you all for being followers of this Blog of Mine! I could not have guessed at the beginning, how much fun it was going to be! You all have enriched my life with your comments and your own blog worlds and I sincerely hope to continue on this adventure for many years to come! And to all those followers who did not win the prize.... I can only offer the hope that NEXT time you will be a winner..... for surely there will HAVE to be more giveaways!
And now for the Details of the drawings! Remember that there were to be two separate drawings... one for the Cherubs and one for the Icons.... and that you could choose to be in either or both drawings.....! I carefully listed all the names of the responders and cut the lists into equally sized slips of paper and folded them in half and placed them in a bowl... as you can see here below..... I decided to choose the Icons first as there were more names in that drawing....

And I decided to ask one of my small friends to come help me with the task of choosing the slip of paper! Henry, who is always up for a bit of Adventure, was happy to come help me! I explained that I wanted him to help me mix up the pieces of paper before choosing one of them......

"You want me to get in there?" he asked.
I explained that it might be easier that way.....

"Now what!" he said. "You want me to stomp on them all? Like Grapes? I'm good at stomping Wine grapes!"
"Stir, not stomp!" I replied. "We just need to get them good and mixed up!"
"Like this?" he said.
"Much more like it " I replied!

And before I knew how it happened, one of the slips of paper flew out of the bowl! Honest! It really did! So I gave it back to Henry so he could show you who he "Chose" as the winner......

Congratulations Helene of "Pubdolls"! You have won the Icons!

Send me your address! and the Icons will be on their way - direct from the Castle Chapel Altar!
My e-mail is betsyrogers6@gmail.com

But don't go away everybody.... there is the Cherub drawing too...... and I put the names for that one in the bowl just so......
There were fewer names ... so better odds of winning..... And I asked a different little friend to help me with this one. I think Henry had gone off to look for some wine........

So Annabelle helped me!

She thought it was a whole lot of fun to climb into the bowl and throw bits of paper around!

And before I could even explain to her what we were doing,
she picked up one of the pieces of paper and said
"Lookit this one!"
"Well," I replied, "I guess you've chosen our winner!"

Congratulations Patty of "Mini Babies"!
You are the winner of the cherub paintings!

Send me your address and I will send them on their way!
My e-mail is betsyrogers6@gmail.com

So there we have it....... Giveaway Winners!
