Just Another Day In The Park...

Raymond Visits Alone....

Raymond had headed to the Park, Dear Readers, hoping to find Renee and Mademoiselle O'Malley, her Nanny, visiting with the birds as usual even though it was such a cold and gloomy day. He found the Park was empty. Not even the birds were strutting around in search of crumbs. It suited his mood perfectly. He was feeling sorry for himself. He felt abandoned and shut out of Renee's life. Even after what was it... only five days since Mademoiselle O'Malley had been hired to be the new nanny?

He was in the habit of visiting Renee every day just to give her nanny a break. Gabrielle had seemed to know that it mattered more to Raymond that he had time with Renee, than that she needed a break. Renee was not a difficult child to care for. And Raymond had been caring for her ever since she was left in his Office when she was an infant, even though Madame had always hired the nannies. He always checked on her and made sure she had what she needed. None of the other nannies had minded. They were happy to let him"give them a break". But Mademoiselle O'Malley was different.

He absent-mindedly tossed the bread crumbs he had brought for the birds.
Perhaps they would show up if there was food, he thought.
 Although, without Renee there...
it was not so much fun to feed them.

The worst of it was that he knew he had no rights to Renee at all.
She was not his child. She was no relation to him at all!
He was only the Lawyer to her Grandparents, and had known the family all his life.
It was just that when Renee's mother had decided that
she would not keep her child after all, she left her at the Lawyer's Office.
And because the Grandparents had been away overseas at the time,
he had ended up taking care of her for more than a week
until they could return home and claim her.
He had bonded with baby Renee and loved her as if she were his own child.
The real problem was that the new nanny was Renee's natural mother,
even though Renee did not know.
Madame had hired her in order to keep her
from taking Renee away from them....
and to his great embarrassment, they, the Lawyers
had not had her sign the adoption papers
before she left the child with them all those years ago.
She probably could take Renee and it would not be illegal!

He wanted to hate her, Mademoiselle O'Malley, that was,
but he knew he was being unfair.
Even after just five days it was very clear that she was good for Renee.
She did things with Renee, and Renee was happier than he'd ever seen her.
He hated to think that he was being jealous.
He had never been jealous of anyone before
and it was a very uncomfortable feeling.

Just then his phone rang and he answered it right away.
"Good morning, sister ..." he said... "You are calling early!"

"Hey, brother of mine," said Fleur cheerfully,
"I am out in my garden to gather some flowers for the shop...
Gabrielle is seeing that Juliet is ready for school!
I am loving having Gabrielle to help!"

And I am just dying to know how how our Daphne
is working out as Renee's nanny!" she declared.
"I was so shocked to learn she is Renee's mother!" she added earnestly.

"She is a veritable paragon... " he replied snidely,
and immediately felt chagrined.
"I want to hate her..." he added despairingly,
"but she is very good with Renee...
so I have to admit she is admirable" he added reluctantly.

"And is this a bad thing, dear brother...?"
Fleur asked, surprised at his attitude.

"Madame only hired her to keep an eye on her..." he said,
"but I warned her it was a very bad precedent to set...
it will be impossible to fire her!
But Madame was afraid she would take Renee away,
so there was no reasoning with her" he added.

"Do you really think Daphne would take her away..."
 asked Fleur incredulously?

"That's the problem..." he said, annoyed.
"I just don't trust her" he added flatly.
"But she's very kind to Monsieur too,
so I doubt she'd take Renee away" he said glumly.

"Well, dear brother," said Fleur, "clearly she has upset you..."

"She's just too perfect" he said, annoyed.
"They all think she's just wonderful...
nobody can be so perfect..!" he added.
"They act like she's an angel.... she's so serene,
she even looks like one with all that fiery hair...." he added
dismayed at how much he had said.
"She doesn't let me have any time with Renee..." he added sadly.
"I haven't seen her in days."

 "Oh, dear!" declared Fleur.
"Not at all?" she added, surprised.

"Well, apparently, I can trot along behind them
like a good little boy, if I want to..." he said sarcastically.
"It doesn't feel right. I'm not feeling at all like a good little boy" he added.
"I told you, I want to hate her.
I have hated her for years for abandoning her child!
You know that!" he declared angrily.

"Now we have to welcome her into the family
 and let Renee love her!"

"Oh, dear!" said Fleur heaving a big sigh.
"I am afraid you've got it bad, dear brother she added" cryptically.

"Got What..!?" he demanded, annoyed.

"I think you really love her too," said Fleur smiling...
"But you can't admit it" she added.
"I'm not surprised. Our Daphne is very sweet and lovable.
Everyone who knows her loves her" she added.

"What..?" declared Raymond appalled.
"You have got to be nuts, sister mine..." he said.
"Haven't you been listening to me?" he added.

"Of course, I have!" declared Fleur.
"I think you are head over toes in love with her!
I think you should just marry her....
and then Renee would have a family at last" she added.

"You're not helping, Fleur," he said.
"That's the craziest idea I've ever heard!" he declared.

"Yeah, yeah, of course you do....
it's as clear as day!" she added.
"Look, I gotta go... I have to get Juliet to school...
but let me know how it goes!"
she called as she hung up.

"Let her know how it goes...?" he thought, puzzled.
Why did his sister think love solved everything?!
 Besides, he wasn't in love.
 Sure, he loved Renee absolutely.
But marry her mother? That was madness!

But he stood there for quite a while, staring off into space.
Clearly he was going to have to do something.
He wasn't going to just let Renee disappear from his life.
But what could he do?

Well, Dear Readers, I hope you haven't minded spending
such a gloomy day in the Park after all,
At least the birds joined Raymond in his solitary vigil,
although he didn't seem to notice them at all!

To Those Dear Readers who have only recently joined this blog, I apologize for the very disorganized progress of this story. It began in August of 2013 and has already had somewhere around thirty episodes scattered through the years. I have found it impossible to keep it organized... and finishing it is always another story... If you are really interested you can find most of it under "Daphne's Story" in the labels section....

Well, What Do You Know....?

Gossip.......

I Hope you will not mind me reminding you, Dear Readers, how short a time has passed since Gabrielle, Renee's former Nanny, was fired. It might seem like more time has passed, but I assure you it has been barely two weeks! Raymond had found Gabrielle a new position as Au Pair to his sister Fleur's daughter, Juliet, and she had gone to live with them in "The States". And you might recall that the other day when Daphne had insisted on mailing a letter from Renee to Gabrielle, she had commented that she thought she was acquainted with Fleur! Raymond had been very surprised to learn that, and it had bothered him ever since. He knew next to nothing about Daphne, and now that she was the "Nanny" he felt obligated to learn more about her. Perhaps, he thought, it was time to give his sister Fleur a call. He could check up on Gabrielle, make sure she was settling in well to her new job, and perhaps learn something about Daphne as well.

Perhaps Fleur would not have much to say...
but he felt he should give it a try.

Fleur had just arrived at her favorite place to have lunch with friends.
It was an intimate little garden patio behind one of the local Hotels
and they served delicious sandwiches and fresh salads.
Fleur was always happy to hear from her brother....
she answered right away...

"Hey, you!" she said cheerfully.
"How is the Nanny search going...?'

Raymond was in the habit of asking Fleur's advice
about most things having to do with raising children
as she was experienced and he trusted her good sense.
He had often called her with questions about Renee's care
and kept Fleur informed about Renee's development.
"Madame has hired the new Nanny...." he replied,
with less enthusiasm than Fleur would have expected to hear.

"What is the matter...?" asked Fleur,
hearing the diffidence in his voice.
"Did she not make a good choice?"

"I am not so sure...." he replied.
"The woman is Renee's Natural Mother...." he added.
"Madame hired her to keep an eye on her...
she was afraid she had come to try to take Renee away."

"Heavens" exclaimed Fleur!
"Why would she think that...." she asked?
"Well, the Woman showed up about the same time as there was
a man asking questions about adoptions...." replied Raymond.
"And Monsieur seems to think Renee needs her 'Mother'.... " he added.
"So now she is the 'Nanny'..." he said wearily.

"And you are having to make sure she is not taking Renee...."
said Fleur, knowing her brother well.
Raymond sighed. "I do not trust her at all" he said.
"And the strangest thing is, she says she is acquainted with you" he added.
"Really.... ? What is her name..." asked Fleur?
"Her name is 'Daphne'".....he replied. "'Daphne O'Malley'".

 "No!" cried Fleur....
"Our Daphne is Renee's Mother...?"
"How could that be...?"

"So you do know her..." asked Raymond?

"But, of course...." exclaimed Fleur!
"She is Pollyanna's best friend...
was her maid of honor for the wedding....." she added.
"She's been seeing Will...." she declared.
"But it seems she broke up with him and went back to France....."
"Oh, My God.... she went back to FRANCE" cried Fleur!
"I never would have connected it....
but she does have red curly hair like Renee....!"
"Are you sure she has broken up with the man" asked Raymond?
"Yes. Will is heartbroken...." she added.
"Listen, You," she said,
"My friend is here now... we can catch up later... Ciao!"

Fleur turned to Pollyanna.
She had been so caught up in her conversation
she'd given no thought to who might hear what she said...
"You heard all that ... didn't you" she said apologetically.

"I am shocked!" she added.
"Um... I take it that your brother thinks Daphne is the Mother
to the little girl he takes care of..." said Pollyanna uncertainly.

"Apparently she is the new "Nanny" to Renee" explained Fleur.
"She told Raymond that she knew me...!"
"There is no way it is not our Daphne" she declared!

"Gosh" said Pollyanna...
"I can't really imagine Daphne is a Mother....
But it does explain why she has been so...
different... since she came home from France."

"But why did she never tell any of us..." wondered Pollyanna?
"Well..." said Fleur....
"I happen to know the other side of the story...
 it is really very tragic."
She hesitated... but then continued.
"The father died before they could marry.
And the family only wanted the child...."

"Madame can be very determined when she wants something" she added.
"Apparently she convinced the mother to give up the child...
and Raymond has been looking out for her ever since...!"
"I cannot believe that Daphne was... is.... the Mother!"

Raymond sat for quite a while after his sister said good-bye.
He didn't want to believe that the Woman he had disliked for so long
was actually a friend of his sister!
And he didn't like to acknowledge that
he was glad to hear she had broken up with her boyfriend.
It seemed as though he had learned more than
he wanted to about Renee's Mother!

And I hope you will understand Dear Readers,
that once again I must leave you here....
only a little wiser...
Having heard all the gossip!
Well, what do you know?

Flowers!

And CAKE.... and More Suits.....

The Crocus are starting to bloom in my RL Garden! This, Dear Readers, is ASTONISHINGLY Early! We normally still have snow on the ground for several more weeks! But it is very warm this week... and the first flowers, tiny little BRAVE blossoms are opening to the sunshine and calling to the bees! Spring is Early, it seems! (I THOUGHT this was going to be a Winter Wedding!) But these tiny little blossoms have reminded me that I have ANOTHER Big task to accomplish before the Wedding is Ready to commence..... The FLOWERS!!!!

But BEFORE I get to the flowers, let me reassure you that there Will be Refreshments too! The Caterers are Preparing the Cake..... and here I will give you a Sneak Preview..... it is not finished.... so you might not even recognize it when they are done decorating it!

Ah, this is a slightly better view!
(Observant people will recognize this as a Dollar Store Wedding Favor! :))

And IF you were wondering if I had Finished all the suits yet.......
I'm getting closer... but not done....
Chip has his Tuxedo.....
But without a complete shirt..... only a Dickie (False shirtfront)

But I made the jacket just like Arthur's.....
Sleeves first....

Then the rest..... even buttons!
I think it was a little bit quicker this time around......
but still took HOURS!

And Harold is getting a False shirtfront too.......
I still have to make his jacket......

All I can say is there better not be any more Male guests needing jackets!

(Sorry to keep you waiting, Harold!)

But I MUST get started on the Flowers!!!!

I started with a selection of Ribbon Roses..... bought for decorating wedding favors.
I glued stems to some and then trimmed off most of the green ribbon "leaves" which didn't look enough like leaves in my opinion!

Bunched together with some other tiny white clustered "blossoms" ....
I bought a bunch of plastic flowers that had tiny blossoms that might be the right size.....

And some antique velveteen "leaves" and some plastic "Ferns".......
Can you tell that I don't know WHAT I am doing??????

I Don't have any flower making skills... nor any kits... nor TIME......
So we will just Have to make do with these Not-to-scale blossoms!

That was when I realized I really should just Hire a Pro!
And so I went down to "Fleur's."
She assures me she does weddings all the time!

She has a lovely little shop tucked into the corner of an old Warehouse......

She gets the freshest blossoms.....

In all the most Beautiful colors.......

And she knows ALL the Bouquet styles and the methods to assemble them!

She was Thrilled to take on the Job!!!

Even at the Last minute!
I will leave her to her work.....
She has Wonderful ideas!

I can't wait to see what she comes up with!
I LOVE Flowers!
