Roses At Rose Thorn Cottage

And Other Little Things.......

Suddenly the Roses are Blooming, Dear Readers, In my Big gardens as well as in the Tiny garden at Rose Thorn Cottage! You have not seen this garden before.... because as with many Magical things.... Sometimes they are there... and sometimes they are Not! But it is nearing the Summer Solstice, and Great Aunt Agatha has been dreaming of Roses, and so she was not at all surprised to find them blooming just outside the door to the Cottage this beautiful Summer morning! She couldn't resist taking a moment to smell the beautiful Rose blossoms....

Before sitting on her favorite bench in the soft morning light......

It is a beautiful Day and she has all the time in the World....

I hope you  can forgive me if I linger here with her for a moment or two!

I do have a few little things I want to show you.....
Starting with the doorway to the cottage!

There is a cage hanging by the door...
For keeping captured Pixies out of the way.....
And a dragon emblem on the door itself.
This is a Witchy Cottage after all....
So one better be prepared to see a few strange things!

And if we go inside,
I want to show you the carpet.....

I have had this scrap of fabric for Centuries (it seems)
just waiting for the right room.
But it was too long and narrow....
so I pieced it together with glue and bias seam tape...
(I forgot to take pictures in process)

Yes, the pattern gets inverted in the middle....
but I wanted the cut edges to go together in the middle...
leaving the frayed edges for the borders....
It is a VERY OLD carpet, you understand!

Here you can see it in the Cottage....
it fits Exactly.... and is Just the right color....
And I could even argue that the flowers are Roses!
I think it looks so Wonderfully shabby and worn!

And last week I promised you one or two more tiny details
for the Cottage bathroom.
I started with a hairbrush.....

I made it from a carved down woodsie
and some bristles from a paintbrush.
Some of you might remember the Last time I made a hairbrush.....

For the dressing table in the Tree House Dressing Room....
in Another Rose Blooming Garden.....
in a Much smaller scale!
Can you even see it there on the dressing table???

And Here you can see the new hairbrush...
Just for comparison!

And here it is on the shelf in the Cottage Bathroom.....
I am sorry the photo is so dark.... it was late.....

So I must show you in the morning light!
And can you see the tiny necklace left in the shell...???

Here... come closer....
Aren't they lovely?

Well, Dear Readers, you might think that was all that remained
to be added to the bathroom...
But I realized there was something else missing...

A small Cameo portrait on the inside wall at the foot of the tub....
Something you can only see a glimpse of in the mirror!

When you look from just the right angle....
it really grabs your eye and pulls you in deeper....

Because I couldn't bear the idea of that empty wall....!

And even though I think that is all the little details I will add to this room....
I have not yet glued the wall in place.
I will probably wait a while...
just to be Sure.!

So before I go, I will leave you with another picture of the Roses....

Because we Have to stop and smell the Roses, Dear Readers....
And after all, they Are such tiny Little Things!

Epilogue

Do We Know Where We Are Going....?

When I was six years old, going on seven, Dear Readers, and my sister was just turned five, our Mother made for us Princess Dresses for Halloween costumes. She was very creative and frugal, and made them out of old maroon brocade curtains she found in the attic of our house. And she used old fashioned lace doilies for the collars of our gowns. I am not sure there are any pictures of us wearing them, but I can remember the dresses as though it were just yesterday. They were not quite identical, the lace collars being different, and though people often asked if we were twins, we don't look really exactly the same! Have you guessed, that these two Little Dreamers are my Sister and Myself as little girls... come to play in my Mini Worlds?

My Mother recognized us Instantly when she saw the blog, saying
"before I even read the text I recognized the costumes on the little girls and time disappeared...." And my sister said "What masterful renditions of the fragments of memory! They are more perfect than real!"
But I must confess that it was a last minute project, making these gowns in miniature.... because I had begun to tell the story before I had figured out How the Enchanted Seed would be returned to the Wizard! I had not intended the little girls that are my Sister and Me to enter into the story this way.... but something happened.... and I realized that the two Sisters needed to be costumed in those Princess Gowns from long ago! So I was rushing against Time trying to get the costumes sewn in Time to get the Story posted before Halloween was over and done!
But I had not thought through the consequences
of setting us loose in this mini world....
are We now Stuck in Time?

Having joined in with the other little Princesses at the Castle Ball....
having rescued the Wizard.....
having Eaten the Enchanted Seed......!
Having ended up at Rose Thorn Cottage on Distant Briar Moor.....

Are we Doomed to Dreaming Forever....?
Do we know where we are going....
Do we even have a home???

Questions that have no answers....
even as the Dawn light shines on the Cottage...
Chasing the stars from the sky....

And the Little Dreamers join Great Aunt Agatha outside....
In this Haven Between the Worlds......

In this place that is neither Here nor There.....
Neither Now nor Then....
Where even Time is Free to stand still....

And even if we choose to look into the Magic Well....

What will it show us if we don't know what we are looking for....?
Well, I have to admit I have no answers...!
Nor, do I even know where We are going, Dear Readers....
But perhaps..... just Perhaps it explains why I am Dreaming still!
