Epilogue

Do We Know Where We Are Going....?

When I was six years old, going on seven, Dear Readers, and my sister was just turned five, our Mother made for us Princess Dresses for Halloween costumes. She was very creative and frugal, and made them out of old maroon brocade curtains she found in the attic of our house. And she used old fashioned lace doilies for the collars of our gowns. I am not sure there are any pictures of us wearing them, but I can remember the dresses as though it were just yesterday. They were not quite identical, the lace collars being different, and though people often asked if we were twins, we don't look really exactly the same! Have you guessed, that these two Little Dreamers are my Sister and Myself as little girls... come to play in my Mini Worlds?

My Mother recognized us Instantly when she saw the blog, saying
"before I even read the text I recognized the costumes on the little girls and time disappeared...." And my sister said "What masterful renditions of the fragments of memory! They are more perfect than real!"
But I must confess that it was a last minute project, making these gowns in miniature.... because I had begun to tell the story before I had figured out How the Enchanted Seed would be returned to the Wizard! I had not intended the little girls that are my Sister and Me to enter into the story this way.... but something happened.... and I realized that the two Sisters needed to be costumed in those Princess Gowns from long ago! So I was rushing against Time trying to get the costumes sewn in Time to get the Story posted before Halloween was over and done!
But I had not thought through the consequences
of setting us loose in this mini world....
are We now Stuck in Time?

Having joined in with the other little Princesses at the Castle Ball....
having rescued the Wizard.....
having Eaten the Enchanted Seed......!
Having ended up at Rose Thorn Cottage on Distant Briar Moor.....

Are we Doomed to Dreaming Forever....?
Do we know where we are going....
Do we even have a home???

Questions that have no answers....
even as the Dawn light shines on the Cottage...
Chasing the stars from the sky....

And the Little Dreamers join Great Aunt Agatha outside....
In this Haven Between the Worlds......

In this place that is neither Here nor There.....
Neither Now nor Then....
Where even Time is Free to stand still....

And even if we choose to look into the Magic Well....

What will it show us if we don't know what we are looking for....?
Well, I have to admit I have no answers...!
Nor, do I even know where We are going, Dear Readers....
But perhaps..... just Perhaps it explains why I am Dreaming still!

  1. How sweet that it was you and your sister. The dresses look warm, but perhaps it's cold between worlds? :-)
Great story and cannot wait to read/see more.

    1. Hi Lisa! They do look like warm dresses... but we are in the colder climate here, so it is good to be dressed warmly for this time of year! Thank you for commenting!

  2. Lovely, lovely. And here's another question from the past - is that crystal ball one of the doorknobs from 90 Seaward Road? I guess they would have been too big for your mini world; perhaps it's a large marble. A crystal marble.
Your blog is just a little melancholy; I'll send you a poem I wrote a few years ago, also melancholy.
    Lots of love,
    Mom

    1. Hi Mom! The poem is Beautiful! Thank you! It has become that time of year for me... closing in of the dark and cold... but soon it is time for the Christmas lights! And yes, it is a large crystal, but not as big as those doorknobs! Love to you!

    1. Thanks, Faby! The dresses were challenging to make... but they turned out just right!

  5. What an imagination you have and how lovely to include yourself and your sister, albeit by accident. It seems very fitting.

    1. Hi Irene! It's always nice to hear from you! Now that my Sister and I are wandering around in my doll worlds... I am going to have to figure out what sort of house they will need.... LOL! But it does add a fun dimension to the stories!

  6. It's always easy to say that afterwards... but I was really wondering what your sister's name was like when reading your last post because... hey... a little dreamer called Beth! *broadgrin* That was indeed a brilliant idea to smuggle yourself into your miniature world and your great stories. And I have no doubt that you'll find answers about how all of this should go on very soon... ;O)

    1. Heehee, Birgit, I was wondering how many of my regular followers would pick up on the names! My sister's name is Amanda... Mandy for short... but I just couldn't bring myself to use our True names for the Little Dreamers! But now that we have arrived into the stories.... I am going to have to figure out all sorts of details... like where do we live....? Oh Dear, this gets complicated! LOL! I think I will need to just get back to building houses and stop all these stories... but not until they are "finished" of course...! How many stories do I have going right now...? I am glad you are enjoying them... I really enjoy your comments! :)

  7. Hi Betsy! So that was you and your sister Amy? How much fun is that! I love how your mom and sister recognized the dresses almost immediately. When you said that your mom fashioned the dresses from old drapes, instantly my mind went to Scarlett O'Hara's green gown made from the velvet drapes at Tara. :)) I think that Miss Scarlett must have been a Little Dreamer too!

    1. Hi Elizabeth! My sister's name is actually Amanda... Mandy for short... I just didn't want to use our real names for the Little Dreamers... so they could be "us" but "not quite us" as the situation requires, if you know what I mean! More freedom for the Storyteller that way! And yes, the dresses from drapes has been a theme all my life... I was already an old hand at making clothes from old curtains when I first saw Scarlet's gown! You can imagine how envious I was of the color of her velvet drapes....!

    1. Hi Margriet! Ever since I started making the dolls in the summer I have known they were my Sister and I when we were little! There was just something about the way they looked... and my sister recognized it too when I showed them to her. I had been unsure of how they should be dressed... whether it should be realistic or completely imaginary.... and then when I was thinking about the costumes for the Halloween party at the Castle... I just knew I would have to make those gowns for the dolls!

  9. Ah and so it is proven. Halloween is a time for magic. This year you and your sister were drawn into the miniworld, even though you didn't know that's where the story was heading. Sometimes we are simply led down a path and we do well to not resist. Lovely memories to relive, share and in a way immortalise.
    Thank you!

    1. Hi Veronique! Yes, it is Magical! These ideas seem to come from another place and time.... was it really my sister and I dreaming all those years ago.... and who is really telling the stories??? *Shivers* I am just following along... the Little People are the ones with the stories to be told! You are right that these are lovely memories to immortalize! Thank you for your wonderful comments!

  11. That's so cool that you and your sister got to enter the story! I remember my mom made me a clown costume out of blue and white polka-dot flannel, but I was afraid of wearing it because clowns totally freaked me out! (Still sort of do).

    1. Hi John! I agree about the clowns... Never could understand what was funny about them...! I'm sorry your Mom's attempt at a costume was such a mistake...! I hope other years were more successful... or did she turn you loose and say "make your own!"...?
I think it is fun to have my Sister and Myself roaming through the doll worlds now.... but there are a few unanswered questions..... and it adds a strange layer of "deja vu" .... even more than just with the Lovely Old Dollhouse itself! We shall see what happens!

  12. There is something about writing from the heart something really significant, something real. This post, my dear, I vote to be one of your most lyrical and moving post I have ever read. I really love how you have described the mini worlds that most of us inhabit after we have created them.

"In this place that is neither Here nor There.....
    Neither Now nor Then....
Where even Time is Free to stand still...."

    Just beautiful.

  13. My Dear Sans! You Understand! It is really strange how much it affected me to actually put little "Me" and my "Sister" into the story!!! I felt ....adrift... in a place I hadn't planned on making... torn between really wanting it to be "real" and yet.... terrified to "freeze time" completely.... Glad in a way that I will Have to go on and make more stories... because I Can't just Leave us there!!! Yes, Time is free to stand still... but do we really want it to???? That is the Question!
