Time Does Not Stand Still......

 But Sometimes One Wished....

Everything had Changed, Dear Readers, and the Wizard was afraid! He knew that nothing ever stayed the same... and yet, how often had he stood in this very spot and not seen This very Chamber?  When had he looked away.... and if he were to stand very still... would he see the changes unfold before him? He had no answers for this, but he knew in his bones, that much more than this had changed! Trouble stalked the Land, and he felt Powerless to push back the Evil. For he knew the Darkness was Inevitable... it was written in the Stars and the motion of the Planets themselves.... but the Evil was not! It had somehow gained a foothold in the Land, spreading lies and distrust, turning neighbor against neighbor, a poison that was invisible and insidious and thrived on Fear. And yes, even he was afraid! There were rumors of a great Plague that was sweeping through the Cities and Towns... the Grim Reaper was on the move and taking a Terrible Toll! And in which era it flourished most... he could not be sure... for Plague had come before.... and would come again.

Of this he was certain!
But that was not what worried him the most....
The Greater danger was the Fear....
the lies, the distrust, the loss of common decency...
the erosion of Faith!

And he knew this Deeply himself, for everywhere he looked
all he saw was the Darkness.
When had his Dreams been stolen...? He wondered....

He could Remember standing at the Fountain of Dreams...
and could feel the Summer breezes
and hear the gentle music of the water...

But Something had Shifted....
He could not be sure if he was Dreaming....
Or seeing another's Dreams...
For suddenly a Selkie swam up from the depths of the fountain!

She was singing a Haunting song
in a Language he did not understand...

It was as though she was seeking the Lad... Peregrine...
For he stood there at the Fountain too...

But did he hear the Selkie's Song...?

And what was she seeking from him....?
And where had he gone....?
For the Wizard did not remember
seeing him dogging his shadow in recent days....

An idea that had not bothered him until now...!
Where had the Lad gone?

And I hope you will recall, Dear Readers,
another young Lad who often was found playing in the Castle ruins,
even though he had been warned not to many times!

Tommy was ever fascinated by the ancient Castle,
and the idea of Treasure that he might find!
And he had been present when
Perry had found the Great Sword "Harbinger".
Tommy had returned to the Castle again and again
in the hopes that he too could use that sword!
And he was headed there again this lovely Autumn afternoon.

He had ridden this way on his pony "Prince" many times before,
but it all seemed different this afternoon.
The path was not as clear and the ground was rougher.
He had not noticed when the path had shifted.

And he was not paying much attention to the world around him...
when suddenly a ray of sun caught his eyes....

It made him blink... and then he wasn't sure
of what he was seeing before him....

But Prince was frightened!

He reared up suddenly, tossing Tommy from his back,
then turned and ran for home!
Tommy was left lying breathless on the ground.

And then he saw what had spooked Prince....
Well, he thought... he wasn't silly enough
to be afraid of a bunch of old skeletons!
He wouldn't let that keep him from going to the Castle...
even if he did have to walk the rest of the way!

But as he approached the Castle on foot,
he thought how much bigger it looked than ever before.

Maybe he hadn't approached from this direction before...
or maybe not on foot...
But he didn't remember seeing Battlements like that before!

And the steps to the door seemed
much more forbidding than he remembered....
But perhaps that was because he usually went into the Stables below...

But those great doors were closed fast.
Perhaps he didn't need to go right inside yet, he thought...
perhaps he would look around first...
he could hear the ocean below the cliffs...
and a haunting song carried on the wind...
He'd never gone to the cliffs edge before...!

It was a sharp drop to the ocean far below....
and a heavy fog was lying just off shore.
He could hear the song better the closer he came to the edge...

And then he noticed something right below him...
It looked like a boat...
with someone about to get in and sail to sea...
He could barely make out the figures....
Was that the other boy... "whats-his-name"...?
What was he doing getting into a boat....?
With a fog rolling in?

And I am sure you realize, Dear Readers,
that Peregrine had heard the Selkie's song
when she first sang from the Fountain of Dreams.
It had sounded like the most beautiful song he'd ever heard!
And after a while the words had taken shape in his mind...

"Peregrine...." she sang... "You must come to me...."
"I saved you from the sea..... now you belong to me..."
He could hear them chanting endlessly....
and he tried to stay away.
But day by day... week by week,
the song grew more insistent...
 and changed...!
"Peregrine..... your life is your bond... as good as your word..."
"You must bring to me the Enchanted Sword...."

It began to torment him!
And at last he gave in and thought...
"what have I to lose?"

He retrieved the sword from the chest
where they had left it long ago and strapped it to his back.

The little boat he had sailed many times before....
He pulled it to the water's edge...

He did not even mind that the fog was rolling in....
He just wanted the song to stop...
And the Selkie to go away....

And he didn't care about the Sword.....
Not at all....!

But the Wizard did!

And he feared he was too late....!

Well, Dear Readers, Time does not stand still...
Even though we might sometimes Wish it could...
We are all at its Mercy....
You will have to wait....!

Where Do They Go.....?

When Dreams Go Astray.....

I Hope you will not be Alarmed, Dear Readers to discover that the Little Dreamer Beth did Not make it home to Rose Thorne Cottage where her sister Amy was waiting with the Little Dolls. Amy was trying not to be alarmed, but truly she did not think she had ever been apart from Beth for so long without knowing where she had gone. Oh, they often played apart for a time, but always found each other before too long. It was comforting to know that the other was always somewhere nearby. But this time Amy was afraid something had gone wrong when she went to get help. Beth had been so absorbed in the Dollhouse..... she wouldn't answer questions... she wouldn't look away.... Amy had decided she needed to get help... but now she wasn't sure she had made the right decision.

Even though Amy had found the Little Dolls,
 Beth had never come home!

But the worst of it was that nobody else seemed to notice!
Amy was starting to wonder whether she had Dreamed the whole thing up......
Or maybe she was still Dreaming...!
How could she tell for sure?

But I am Sure you will not be surprised to learn
that Amy was not the only one who was concerned.

The Wizard was also wondering at the Alarming Silence
that seemed to Pervade all the world....
at least the places where he traveled.
He had heard whispers on the Wind of a Missing Dreamer
 and so he was Investigating.

The Castle was eerily quiet.

As though it were..... waiting for something to Happen....

Father Alban was not making any progress in his work...
but seemed Lost in some old Dream.

Even Henry and Belle were staring off into space...
And Old Meg was not saying a word!
Something was not as it should be....

And where were all those pesky Children
that seemed to always be underfoot...?
Yes, The Wizard was concerned!

Meanwhile, Dear Readers, I hope you can recall
that Tommy, one of those Pesky Children,
had taken the Sword Harbinger from the Castle,
and then fearing that he would be caught with it
he'd ridden off to find somewhere to hide it.
But in his haste he had fallen from his pony, Prince,
and hit his head hard enough to knock him senseless.
When he awoke in his own bed he did not have the Sword....
And he had trouble remembering just what had happened.
Had he Dreamed he took the sword....?

He rode out to see if he could find the Sword....

but he could never be sure if he was looking in the right place....

He thought he remembered where the great tree roots made the path tricky....

But no matter how often he came by....
he could not find the Sword.

But he knew in his heart that he had taken something
that was not his to take.... and then he had Lost it!
He dreaded going to the Castle....
he was afraid that the Wizard
would know what he had done!

And I know you are Wondering what has become of the Little Dreamer Beth...
Who was last seen staring into the windows of The Secret Christmas House....

She had never seen anything like this before!
She was So enchanted by what she could see....

That she Wished..... she Wished with all her heart
that she could just be in there
where that beautiful little Christmas Tree stood
surrounded by presents... and even a little tiny dollhouse!
Well, I hope you can believe it, Dear Readers....

She just might have been granted her Wish!

And you Might just have to stick around to find out...
Where Little Dreamers go when they go Astray!

The Wizard's Dream.......

Where Do You Go When You Dream......

You Might or Might Not recall, Dear Readers, that the Grand Upheaval at the Castle over the past few months required that the little people should go away on Dream Vacations, and so there was a great exodus to any and all available locations around my mini worlds. It was the Wizard's Fate to find himself at the Fountain of Dreams... a place he had been to many a Time, but never before with so many unanswered Questions. Perhaps here, at Last, he would find some answers to the riddles that seemed to only multiply the more he tried to unravel them! And what were those Riddles that bothered him so, I hear you ask? Well, perhaps you have forgotten that Perry had found the Sword "Harbinger".....

And had slashed through Time itself....

bringing him to the Wizard.....

Or was it to bring the Sword to the Wizard...?

Even before Perry could turn around,
Time had shifted again....
the Wizard had hidden Harbinger....
and the sword in Perry's hand was once again a child's plaything.
But the Wizard was not reassured....
What was the real reason for "Harbinger" to appear?
And why in the Hand of the Child...

But as he gazed deeply into the Fountain of Dreams....
all he could see was Innocence....
Something he had Lost so long ago...
It could only be glimpsed in Dreams....
And what use could that be to him now...?
Now when all the World was so Dark and Troubled....?
When it was all he could do to Hold back the Forces of Evil....?
He could not see the use....

But the Wizard was not the only one
who stood at the Fountain of Dreams...

Perry had also found himself before the Fountain.....
And even though the sword in his hand was a Child's Plaything....
perhaps it emboldened his Dreams...
Perhaps he would discover strengths he hadn't known...
or overcome Fears... and conquer Demons...
Perhaps anything was possible in Dreams!

And lest you think Dreams only come
to those who stand by the Fountain,
Tommy had not been able to forget
seeing the Sword that made the Wizard appear!
The more he thought about it,
the more he Dreamed of holding it himself...

Was it like the Genie in the Lamp.....
would the Wizard appear to whoever wielded the Sword?
He wanted to give it a try himself...!
He set off for the Castle on his pony Prince
on a lovely brisk Autumn afternoon...

He knew his pesky sisters would not follow him today....
because they had gone to the Village
 with Mrs. Butterworth, their cook,
and would spend hours at the market.

Every now and then when he arrived at the Castle,
the stables would be full of the Castle horses...
but today they were empty.
He thought this was a good thing,
because the last time when they found the sword
there had been no-one in the Castle.

The Great Hall was empty....

The Guard Room was empty....

The room at the top of the stairs was empty....

Except for the chest....
right where it had been the last time....

He marched right over and lifted the lid....
And there was the Sword...!

He pulled it out of the chest...
it was heavier than he thought it would be.....

And suddenly he feels afraid to try it out here...
in the same place the Wizard appeared before!
Perhaps it would be better to try it outside....

So he heads for the door....

Prince is waiting for him in the stables....

But once they are outside,
he is afraid someone might see him
if he uses the sword while too near to the Castle.
Perhaps it would be safer to take it farther away before using it....

But there doesn't seem to be a good place to try using the sword....

And the farther he goes, the more he starts to think
he will need to find a place to hide it.
But where could he keep it that his sisters would not find it....?

But that is not all, Dear Readers!
I am sure you are wondering where the Little Dreamers
 spent their Dream Vacation....
and I assure you it was not such an exciting Time for them!
They found themselves at Hardwick Hall...
where they spent their time in the Attic...

There was not a lot to do....
and they tried to eavesdrop on the Witches....

Who drank endless pots of Tea....
But were too far away to hear what they were saying.
There were hardly any books on the shelves....
And when they had read them all....

They made up stories... called "What if.....?"
And tried to play with the little doll
who was a bit aloof and wouldn't play with them.

Until one day when she suddenly said

"I was hoping to find my sisters...
Little Rose and Sweet Pea...
Have you seen them anywhere?"

The Little Dreamers looked at each other....
suddenly remembering that it had been a long while ago
that they had last seen Little Rose and Sweet Pea....
"I think we left them somewhere..." said Amy.

"I think it was on the Distant Briar Moors..." said Beth.

"We Have to go find them....! " she added.
"What if they aren't there...?" said Amy.

But what of the Wizard's Dream, you are wondering?
When the Wizard returned to the Castle Caves
he found that things had changed!

The World seemed Darker than before....

And colder.... and Empty.....
almost as though he had never been there before!

And in the Castle too.....

When he went to greet Guard Ian.....

He seemed not quite himself......
although he smiled and said "Welcome back"!

And the same with those who remained in the kitchen...
Henry and Belle and Old Meg....
The kitchen was not disturbed during the Great Upheaval....
so there was no need for them to leave....
And yet....

Even though they too greeted him and said welcome back......
He did not think they looked well at all!

But it was Old Meg who cackled at him.....
and said he looked as though he had seen a ghost...!
which made him wonder if he was Dreaming....
And would awake at any moment.....

And lest you think I have forgotten, Dear Readers,
Your favorite Band... "The Deadly Nightshades" have spent their Time
At one of the Lads' posh flat...

Rehearsing for the Halloween Castle Ball.....
Working the Kinks out of some New and Gruesome Oldies....!
So I do hope you will stick around to see
What happens...
If the Little Dreamers find the Tiny Dolls....
If Tommy Loses the Sword "Harbinger".......
If the Wizard discovers where his Dreams have Taken him....
If there is a Castle Party on All Hallows Eve......
