A Death In My Family
When Life hits you too hard, what do you do?
Do you drop everything? Gather close to your loved ones? Cry, eat, sleep, cry some more?
All this, and still it is not enough. No answers. No ease for the sorrow. No turning back Time.
The Father of my beautiful Nieces, my Sister's ex-husband, died suddenly last Thursday.
Heart failure. Nobody knew. He was only 62.
What can you say? What can you do?
We gathered in Maine where Norm lived and worked. Where he was born and where he died. Where the roads are long and mostly dirt and the houses are few and far between.
A close friend of his opened her home to his Family and Friends to Gather and Remember this Wonderful Man. Father, Grandfather, Nephew, Cousin, Brother, Uncle, Brother-in-law, Ex-husband, Friend.... however you were connected to him, it was always the same... Norm was just always there. Steady, Kind, Gentle, Loving, Beloved. Only now he is gone. How do you say Good-bye?
We stood at the edge of the little pond behind his cabin.
Home to fish and frogs. Where the deer and Herons come.
In the woods that Norm loved.
Still thinking to find Norm somewhere nearby.
What can you do? What can you say?
How can you understand Death?
Or do you look into the eyes of his Grandchildren....
Salem.....
and Zahira.....
And smile because the children need you to smile.....
And because Life goes on...
Norm, You are Missed!

So sorry for you loss. Such sudden situations are horrible to cope with. We have had it, too, in our family. It is shock, pure shock. May God give you strength, and comfort you all! It needs time, a lot of time to cope with life again! Allow yourself to grieve and honour the dear one!

Oh Betsy, you made me cry all over again. I don't think it could have been more lovely - that iconic, long empty road in Maine; the sweet grandchildren. Uncomprehending faces. Just wonderful. Thank you.

Betsy, I've never been so sorry to be so late to read and to comment, please forgive me. I can see in the countryside and the long, beautiful Maine road and in the lovely faces of his Grandchildren that Mr. Plourde lived his life deeply and truly and well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dear Friends, your words mean a great deal to me!
ReplyDeleteDearest dearest Betsy, I have been away for so long, I didn't even come here to share your grief. I am so sorry my dear friend :( , I wish I can give you a big big hug right now.
