The Next Room

Ready Or Not....!

There are still a few items I want to make for the Tree House Library, Dear Readers, but they will have to be added later because I just Could NOT wait to start on the Next Room in the Tree House! There have been several things about this next level that have been unresolved in my mind as I try to envision the structure I will need to build. But then one night I had a Dream, and in the Dream I could see the room so clearly, it was as though I were walking around in it...! So is it any Wonder that I had to get started right away? For this next room will be the Master Bedroom....
In the picture above you can see that the beginning is much the same as for the last two rooms....
I cut the walls out of very thin plywood and loosely taped them in place while I decided the position of the doorways..

The room will be entered from the hall at the top of the stairs....
which runs at the back of the room....
And on the right side where the stairs usually go up in the lower rooms,
in this room the door will lead not to the stairs, but into a dressing room instead.
The stairs will take a different path upward.....
but I will have to show you that step when we get there!

And as usual, I have started on the design of the room by working on the outer door wall first.....
And rather than have windows, like all the other rooms,
it will have doors that open onto a little Juliet Balcony.....
Here below you can see the roughly cut doors.....

And here you can see the Hinges being added.....

(And you KNOW how much I LOVE Hinges...!)

Because it means the Doors Open and Close...!!!!

And here you can see the rough framework for the Balcony floor....

And the Outer Door is attached to the Frame of the Tree House.....

Which is starting to look quite tall...!!

Oh, I think I am going to LOVE this little Juliet Balcony.....!

With the doors that swing wide open to let in the fresh breezes....
(I will need to patch the wood on the insides of the doors....)
And the view through the room to the hallway door beyond.....

Please Forgive me while I play with the Hinges...!!!
Because Ready or Not.....
We're in the Next Room!

    1. Hi Simon! The tree House is 15 inches from the kitchen floor to the top of the bedroom! I am not sure what that is in centimeters... probably around 37 or 38 centimeters!

  6. Betsy, I can't wait to see what you do for the balcony railing. I empathize with your
wanting to move on- once you have an inspiration it is hard to hold off from
    implementing it.

    1. Hi Philip! Once I have an inspiration it is Agony until it is done!!! And it usually takes Forever to complete!!! The Torment of the Inspired I guess! As for the balcony railing... at the moment the plan is to have it be the bark of the tree.... the whole opening will be the center of a broken off branch stub.... if you know what I mean...! Well, you'll have to wait and see...!

  7. Hello Betsy,
I allready love the Juliet balcony.
The doors look wonderful. Again, the fact that you create this in such a small scale leaves me in awe. I am so excited to see what you do to this room. Your work always enchantes me and never dissapoints.

  8. It was quite amazing to see what can happen when a Daydreamer dreams a dream at night... ;O) So good to see you working on that new room, the things you've shown and told so far are very promising - that Juliet balcony is such a brilliant idea. I already love the look from the balcony into the room - although you didn't spread one tiny bit of your magic at the interior... Oh, and thank you for giving me a very good laugh with that "you know I love hinges"-remark, yes, we know you do... and you're a dreamteam, the hinges and you! *wink*

    Greetings

    1. Hi Birgit! Hee Hee... your comments made me laugh! I guess I'm a Dreamer night and Day.... but I remember more of the Daydreams...!!! And you could easily accuse me of being "un-hinged" ie "crazy".... LOL! But I really do love to play with the hinges!!! They make the project so much more fun!!! :)

  9. Well, I zoomed past last week's blog, since the intricacies of wiring really aren't my thing. Yaaaaaay, the lights worked! Now, for the master bedroom - will it be like the cupola in Ben's house? A magical, romantic perch in the sky? Or just another cozy Victorian sleeping space? I eagerly await the results...
    Love,
    Mom

    1. Haha, Mom.... Neither! You will have to wait and see.... I have a ton of ideas... more Eighteenth century than Nineteenth! And I guess the wiring is not your specialty! But the cupola idea is an interesting one ... for some future build perhaps?

  12. You know what? I have no doors in my dollhouse world! Well, not true, I have a front door, ok, almost forgot that. But the barn is all sliders, the house all open doorways. How have I not thought about this? But if I really stop to think about it, the studio barn loft has no staircase or ladder, you would have to fly up to get there. I guess I could make a ladder, but it blocks the view of the cafe. Aesthetics win again. And maybe flying is good - almost the way you flew into your fourth floor in your dream. What a wonderful way to find your ideas, isn't it the best way? Your subconscious whispers to you in the best possible way. And then the challenge to translate it into craft and skill and work-yes!

    1. Hi Amy! I think I have only recently realized how much the working doors mean to me! They were the first and most important upgrade I made to the Lovely Old Dollhouse.... all my childhood I wished it had real doors with hinges!!! And I think I feel nearly the same about stairs... it is the realism in miniature.... in my Castle Dollhouse I had to make all the stairways go up inside the walls.... ! But I also can see the buildings as stage sets... with more "off stage" so it can be imagined too...! And yes... I think we find a lot of our answers in our Dreams.... waking or sleeping!

I didn't think you could fit in one more room into this house but there you are, achieving the unlikely , again :). I am already imagining all the fun you are going to have furnishing this new room and all the fun we will have watching you :).
