More Patience....
I Hope you will understand, Dear Readers, that these Dark Times require great Patience. The recent elections here in the USA, like so many things this year, have been extraordinary in so many ways it is impossible to keep track of the "never-befores" as they pile up. I voted for Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, and I am so relieved that they are on the Path to Victory! And yet, there are two months before the current administration will be "out of office". We must continue to have Patience, and Faith in the integrity of our voting system! And so it is hard to feel Jubilant, even though it is a Great milestone to have a Woman as Vice President elect! We still have a long Dark Season to get through. The virus is not getting "under control", people are tired. Nothing is "normal". And now we add Dark and Winter to the mix... we need Patience and Faith. And lots of Stitching to soothe the nerves! Above you can see I have made some progress on the carpet I started. But I have also started another stitching project that has a Seasonal theme...
I bet that most of you will not be able to guess what this is!
(Even though there is a clue visible through the gauze...)
So I will tell you!
It is another Janet Granger kit...
to make a Christmas Tree Skirt with the starry Village theme
that matches one of the stockings I have already stitched.
It is stitched on 32 count silk gauze...
which makes it more detailed than the carpets
which are on 22 count canvas.
Here you can see more of the details.
This has been surprisingly difficult to stitch!
For starters, it is round...
so the houses are all at an angle from the perpendicular!
The directions have you use masking tape
to affix the gauze to the cardboard frame...
but the masking tape doesn't hold well enough
so I have added thread binding to keep the gauze taut.
The size of the tree skirt will be almost five inches in diameter,
so the frame is wider than six inches,
which makes it hard to reach the center with your hands
as you try to place the needle for stitching.
And the finer count requires good light and a magnifier....
so I am not really able to stitch on it at night when it is so dark.
And it is Dark morning and evening now.
Hence the other project!
I did a Lot of stitching on the Christmas Village Tree Skirt
during the sunny days last weekend.
And only a little more on the carpet
in the Dark evenings this week.
I have a long way to go.
Patience and Perseverance...
and Faith will get us there.
I have Hope!
Yes! We around the world followed the US elections and many of us are very happy with the results, yeahh a first woman VP!! I hope better times are on the way for USA. But you are right, these are trying times, we, world wide, have experienced many firsts recently, not many of the good kind, and we still have to keep navigating these waters. Minis have been good to me, and I see that to you too, wow, those new projects look challenging, go girl! I am sending positivity and good vibes your way. Take care xxx
ReplyDeletePaciencia y perseverancia, tienes mucha razón, es lo más necesario en estos tiempos que nos toca vivir...y cuidarse!
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy! I can imagine that this past year was not easy for you, for no one of us, but I'm sure it will go better in the future. The election outcome was also a surprise for many people, me too, but a good one ;O).
ReplyDeleteThe carpet stitching as well as the Christmas skirt are both wonderful works to do, both look great already. Personally I love seeing the skirt, never seen one in mini before as a stitiching kit. It's very delicate, and it seems to me also very intricate (and therefore) difficult work!
Stay safe, take care, dear Betsy.
Warm hug, Ilona
This year was the hardest I remember in my whole life. The only thing that keeps me sane is patience. The corona virus situation is upsetting many governments worldwide, including our own. It will be no surprise if we have another election very soon.
ReplyDeleteStill I'm grateful for being able to craft as it really make one forget what is happening.
Keep stitching, your work is beautiful.
Take care.
Hugs, Drora
Hi Betsy. Wow, that is fine stitching! But it is great to have an enjoyable challenge and the feeling of accomplishment when it’s done will be worth it. I too hope that things will start looking up for the US soon. Take care. X
ReplyDeleteBeautiul and fine.
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm late with my comments. (Peter Lindsay, a former house-mate had a white VW Rabbit with the license: IML8)
ReplyDeleteSuch a challenge! I hate knitting when it's hard to reach. So much of hand stitching is the pleasure of the feel of the thread through your fingers.
Carry on,Love,
Mom
Dang. I commented & then forgot to "publish."
ReplyDeleteBig chalenge for you - eventually lovely.
You are lovely right now -

Most people here feel a big relief about the election's result - I'm one of them. ;O) - It makes me smile to learn that you have one stitching project for the darker hours and another one dedicated to the lighted hours. Your "C"-project (no, I'm not going to say the word *shudder*) is a wonderful choice and I can't wait to see it under a beautifully decorated "C"-tree. Keep on stitching!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Birgit
Besos.
Dear Betsy, we watched, listened and waited for the results of the US election and are relieved of the outcome.
ReplyDeleteEmbroidery is such a peaceful and meditative thing to do, don't you think? I have hardly touched my minis in months other than a filling in a stitch or two on a large rug from time to time. It feels nice.
The Christmas tree skirt is no doubt going to be amazing, but I can imagine getting those angled houses right would take some serious concentration.
Stay safe and keep well,
Anna X
Dear Betsy,
ReplyDeleteI have missed a few of your posts. But what a wonderful embroideryprojects you have made (and are you making)! I love them. I will try my first embroidery soon, but nothing as fancy as your work. To pick out one of them, I love the tapestry of the medieval ladies. Those alterations you have made enhanced it nicely. I love the result.
And as you said. Miniatures are a good way to get our minds off of the events that dominate our lives and or the media right now. It is always good to have a pause button!
