Seeing The Light....

Tower Progress and Other little Things....

I Hope you will Bear with me Dear Readers, if I ignore Daphne's Story this week and take you back to the Cloud Palace Tower! I am sure you remember that the Tower Bedroom was going to have a Lovely chandelier hanging from the magnificent ceiling... which I was going to try to illuminate from above. This can only be done if I decide to use those wonderful battery powered LED's. I think I am giving in and will do the necessary wiring because the effect is so beautiful! But meanwhile as you can see in the above picture, I decided on the shape for the paneling in the lower portion of the walls.

This "paneling" is made from painted cardboard....
but I wanted a more graceful shape than just plain vertical strips.
I painted the trim in the same silver paint that I used for the trim in the rest of the Palace.

Once the paneling was compete I could experiment with the lighting....
Here you see it with just the LED shining from the very top of the Dome....
I think it gives a lovely overall radiance.

So then I have to try and hang the chandelier
and still have the light shining down from above...
and hope it shines on the chandelier in such a way as to make it glow....

I think it works well enough!
Even though I cannot attach it yet,
as the tower still needs too much "construction"
I think it gives the atmosphere I am hoping for!
(And I thought I was getting away with No wiring on this project!)

Here you can see the whole Palace as it stands so far....
(with the stairs started up to the next level....!)
And all the Bears are happily enjoying a Sunny Sunday morning....

Yes, Brother Beorn is still telling Tall tales to the crystal Butterflies!
They are giggling hysterically....!

Blue and Sir Orion have eyes only for each other.....
(They are a Match made in Heaven...!)

And I recently bought this beautiful blue pitcher....
that matches Perfectly the Blue of the Blocks Birgit sent....
that spell out "Dream"....
(Gee, Is it any wonder why she chose that word...!)
I do Love that morning light!

And while we leave the Bears to their Dreams and we get back to work here....
I also have added several small details to the bathroom in Rose Thorn Cottage!

For starters, I made the water tank for the toilet, and the pipe too....
just very old fashioned and rustic.... with a pull chain....

And I very carefully stitched the hems on the bathroom curtain....
and added the lace trim.... which is a tiny bit short.....
but we can pretend, since it will not be visible,
that it simply got worn and ragged at that corner......

And I also stitched it with a "string" through the top to hang it......
(made from the string on a teabag....)
tied to nails at each end.....
I had to measure very carefully, so it would hang just right....
and would look very rustic and patched together....

I pre-drilled the holes and pushed the brass nails in with a spot of glue.
I think I will leave the ends of the string.... maybe a little shorter....

I also made some tiny jars for the shelf in the corner....
all with the theme of "roses"....

I glued them in place before attaching the shelf......

But the truly wonderful detail I added has to be the faucets for the tub!
Here you can see the parts made of sculpey and wire....

And here you can see them put together.... and painted......

And here below you can see the tub in place in the tiny bathroom.....

Without the wall in place....
the wall that would hide that end of the tub and make the faucets impossible to see...

Like this!
Hmmmmm.....
I have been picturing the tub from this angle from the beginning....
but maybe I should try it the other way around...?

I had to invite Joanna in to see how the bathroom would work with this layout....
and I shined a bright light into the corners to help me see....

And tried it with the wall in place.....
to see what we would see....

And closer.... with the light shining in the window....
How can we hide those wonderful faucets?
I think I am seeing the light, Dear Readers,
In the Tower and in Other little Things!

  1. I LOVE the taps! Recently I had to create modern ones (which I will be soon showing on internet), but yours are most charming of all!
The curtain is lovely and the angle we all can see bathroom wants us to go inside and see the rest of this rooom.
The glow in Tower Bedroom gives a very misterious touch. And I love the shot of the whole Cloud Palace! It is looking awesome!

  2. Betsy, again you did fabulous work on the house of Blue and the tower! Those taps are wonderful, thank you for showing how you did this job. The bath is wonderfully shown on the bottom picture, it would be a pity for all the work you did on the bath and the taps....
The curtain give just a bit more privacy, because the bath tub is under the window ;)! I love your way of working, solving problems in your work while you're doing it.
    Hugs, Ilona

  3. The paneling compliments the windows of the tower room. It's aways fun to see you work your magic. I must agree with the comments above that the taps looks fantastic. The NO wiring policy of your project sounds fantastic lol I am going stire crazy with planning all the wiring in my new project. With every wall I place I find myself thinking and solving the whole wiring/lighting situation. I do love the chandelier your have in the tower. Must look in to the LED lights... perhapse they are easier to install? or is that just wishfull thinking? ;p

  7. I'm sooooooooo sorry you had to give up your no-wiring-policy... *showing-a-broad-grin* I knew before this wouldn't work for you... because you're always struggling for perfection. The chandelier is perfect for your room and I like the new shape of your trims, I think they fit very well into this round room. But what I like the most about your progress in the Cloud Palace is finding out that there will be another level in the tower... *wohooooo* Or was it seeing the bearies enjoying themselves so much that I liked the most? Anyway... ;O) Your newest additions to Rose Thorn Cottage are stunning... and I agree with the others, the tub must be placed in this way so that the gorgeous taps are visible. And without being a plumber, but it's far more logical having both connections to the water supply for the toilet and the tub in one single wall... ;O)

    Hugs

  9. Hi Betsy! I love the way the tower is developing and the starry night sky and the lower wall detail, look terrific and with the light making the stars twinkle, it is Heavenly! I also agree that the tub turned to face the outside wall is a far better idea and helps to show off your Very Clever and Innovative, tub faucets! Your Rose Cottage is just Adorable, Betsy and I can't wait to see what you do next! :D

  10. Hello Betsey,
The tower is magnificent. It is so regal and beautiful. I could just imagine standing there overlooking the clouds. The chandelier is perfect and works so well with the gorgeous ceiling you made. It is really a masterpiece!

As for the bathroom. I love it! The bathtub is wonderful the way you put it in the last picture. You cannot hide those incredible faucets you made...It would be sinful! Once again I leave you blog feeling inspired and in awe!
    Big hug,
    Giac

  11. Your furnishings are so realistic it's easy to forget they are so tiny! The introduction of your hands from time to time is necessary, to understand how remarkable your work is. The LED light shining down on the chandelier is perfect. I don't know what to say about those wonderful faucets - I hope you can figure out a way they can be seen without spoiling the effect of that magnificent bathtub!
    This blog earns a "wow!"
    Love,
    Mom

  13. How wonderful it is to come back to your world and see such beautiful things in it, B! A tower, especially. How often did you walk home from school and look at houses with the two story "towers", and want to wake up every morning with the sun coming in through that circle of windows? None of those houses had the magic of your interiors, of course, but imagine if they had...
