Taking Stock....

After The Card....

Well, Dear Readers, I have finished THE Card... but I can't show you pictures yet because it would ruin the surprise for my Family. So while I await their receipt of the card in the mail, I have been racking my brains for something to show you on the blog. You will understand that there has been NO time for minis for weeks.... and weeks...... and weeks! In fact I can't really remember what I was working on ... other than the Sugarplum structure construction, which has also languished in the weeks of focus on the Holidays. And I will confess that I always feel a certain amount of "loss" or disorientation when I complete a card.... or any project that requires such intense and prolonged focus. It feels as though I must reacquaint myself with ME.... what I am doing, what I am planning... where I left all my parts and pieces of all those other projects.... ! Not to mention that Usually I am done sooner... and can begin Taking Stock sooner... right after the New Year is a good time to begin again. So I hope you will not mind too much if all I can show you is a few tiny stitches done on that tiny Christmas Stocking... (yes.... Christmas still!) which I started while visiting my parents in the Fall.

I had managed to work on it a little bit in November...

Hoping that I would maybe finish it by Christmas....

I made good progress around Thanksgiving...

But that is as far as I got before I really had to begin The Card.
And we know what happens after that!
So here we are weeks and weeks later
and I hope you don't mind that I have nothing else to show!
(And I apologize for the blurry pictures...!)
I guess I'll just have to keep taking Stock(ings)
now that I am done with the Card!

  2. Oh Betsy, you described your feeling, regarding the fact of thrifting away from mini's, so well. I must admit that I, after being ill (and now a bit on the mend), I feel the same. But it's good news that you've finished your card, and now I am sooooo curious, but I know I have to wait patiently ;)!! Your tiny Christmas stocking looks gorgeous already, this sort of embroidery is very timeconsuming to do.
Take your time to "reacquaint" yourself again, that will come back to you, that's for sure ;).
    Warm hugs, Ilona

  3. I think there's a certain amount of mental lag time after any big project. So much energy goes into it that adjusting to the lack takes time.

  4. It's time to sit down and relax after all the end of the year activities and especially after completing a long and time consuming project like your Christmas card. You chose a wonderful way to do so by embroidering this lovely picture.

  5. Dear Betsy, the feeling of 'finishing' is so strange indeed. The packing up and 'now what - where was I'
I find it only last until I just grab at something else and get started.
I will look forward to see this year's card - no doubt it is a wonderful as the previous.

  6. I love to start things. I know you do too - maybe you don't really like to finish them, because in some way you then say "goodbye" to them. Of course, with dolls houses you are never really finished - there's always more you could do, as with a real house. Relax and enjoy a little winter holiday. Here in the high desert it will be spring soon.
    Much love,
    Mom

  8. Okay, take a deep breath and all the courage you can get because now I need to tell you this: After Christmas is before Christmas! Conclusion: Showing progress on your fabulous Christmas stitching in a January post is nothing to apologize for. But don't worry, I won't mention now that after the card is before the card. *grin* Ah, so many possibilities for components of this year's card still ahead in the future waiting for their showtime… it's no surprise that you and yourself are needing a bit of time to decide which road to take. But I have no doubt you will get back into the miniature swing very soon… and if it should take a little longer… well, go on stitching! ;O)

But now a little more serious (well, at least I can try) - it's great news that you've finished the card. I keep my fingers crossed that there will be many "Thanks for another masterpiece in my mailbox" messages from your family very soon so that we can finally admire it here.

    Hugs
    Birgit

  9. Sometimes having a moment to just breath between projects is enough to get our ideas and motivation flowing again! I'd say after putting so much thought and work into the Christmas card you deserve a couple weeks at least! I can't wait to see the card and be reminded of all the lovely things you've shared with us over the past year!

  10. Even though Christmas Day is behind us, it doesn't mean that one has to completely abandon its afterglow in January, Betsy, so working on the new Christmas stocking after so much intense concentration on the card, will serve to make your transition smoother and easier as you get back in your mini grove!
And Congratulations on getting your Christmas Card completed- I can't wait to see what you've achieved this year! :D

  11. Congratulations for completing the Christmas card! Even before I read your explanations, just glimpsing at it, I understood what it represented. Your close family and friends will be proud to have another of your beautiful handwork to treasure.
