More Details....

It Wasn't Quite Done...

You Might remember, Dear Readers, that the Secret Christmas House has icicles along the roof eaves. It is supposed to also have snow on the roof, but I have not finished that step yet! I gave it a great deal of thought and decided that I needed to try to make icicles for the roof of the Teeny Tiny Christmas House too. It just looked too unfinished to be placed inside a Bell Jar without any snow or ice! The method I chose to try is my favorite "glue trick"! This is where I rely on the solid bulk of the dried glue to be my "item" whatever that is at any given moment. In this case, it is tiny icicles. I ran a long thin line of Aleen's Quick Dry glue onto a plastic baggie and before it dried, I used the point of a sewing pin to drag the edges down into points, like icicles, and then I left it to dry thoroughly. You can sort of see the shape in the above picture... it is really difficult to photograph a clear item on a clear surface! The shadows are what give it away.

When the glue was completely dry I painted over it...
while still stuck to the plastic baggie,
using ordinary white acrylic paint.
Before the paint was completely dry,
I lifted the strip of icicles off the plastic baggie.
This was so the paint would not all stick to the icicles (the dried glue)
except where the glue had been.
(If you wait for the paint to dry, it would all lift with the icicles
and then they would not look much like icicles!)

Here you can see the painted strip of icicles and the Teeny House.
But before I attached the icicles,
there were a couple of other details missing.
Like the Chimneys...
And the Tiniest Dollhouse Imaginable to go inside under the Tree...

Can you see the house here....?
It is at the top of that scrap of cardboard...
Painted white with a gray roof...
You can just make out a couple of windows and maybe a door...

See it here on my thumb....?
It was extremely difficult to get it glued in place...!

It is a little tippy... but it is close enough!

Here the chimneys have been added....
(Don't tell me they are not the same size... )
And the front row of icicles on the eaves...
(I know they are a trifle big...)

Here I have added a little "snow" to the roof.
Clearly, it is a heavy wet snow!
(This was also surprisingly difficult to apply...
it didn't want to stick at first...
I applied it with that huge sewing pin...!)

Here it is standing on the table
while the snow on the "ground" is drying on the Bell Jar base.

Meanwhile, I wanted to see how the lights
in the Dollmaker's Studio looked with the curtains in place.

(It was a very gloomy rainy day...)
And I wanted to see how the furniture might look
now that the lights were in and the room was developing some character.

And maybe we could bring the Teeny Secret House in to see how it looks...

And then because I hadn't thought of it before...
I needed to try the Big Secret Christmas House in this room...

I was planning to have this house in the upper attic floor...
and a more "open" display cabinet in this room....
But I might have to change my plan!

I think it looks like this room was made for it!

There is room for the sides to be open without taking up the entire back wall
(where a couple of other things must go...)

And there is plenty of room for the table...

And room for Lady Cassandra.....

And her needlework....

Well, Dear Readers, I don't know about you,
But I love it when a room "Comes together"
 in ways you hadn't imagined....
While just adding More details to
 Things that weren't quite done!

  1. The secret Christmas houses were both definitely made for this room as though you'd planned the décor around them the whole time! Kismet! What a wonderful scene with Cassandra and her needlework! Brilliant way to make icicles, and the micro micro house is precious!!! So fun!

  4. You inspired me to make the Secret Christmas House but I draw the line in attempting to make anything smaller...what a talent you have to challenge yourself to make the micro house and the micro micro house. Well done! The room is lovely with the Christmas House in position and needlework just needs to be shown alongside! Cheers, Alayne

  5. Dear Betsy, you're so right: this room is made for both of the Christmas Houses, lady Cassandra and her needlework. The colorscheme, the space where everything is placed, everything fits like a glove!!
The way you made the icicles, is genius, love how they look. But what a meticulous job you did on the teeny tiny house, and its chimneys :O!!
The whole room and the interior now looks gorgeous.
Take care, dear Betsy, and keep making mini's.
    Hugs, Ilona

  6. Please stay tuned for this blog's next episode featuring the making of teeny teeny tiny icicles for the micro teeny teeny tiny house going into the teeny tiny version of the Secret Christmas House! *broad grin* Btw - did I already tell you that you never stop to amaze me??? But I can't disagree: There had to be icicles on your tiny version of the SCH... one of those details only you would add... and you're always right because the results show well that these details needed to be added.

This is amazing and terrific work... and I too think both the big SCH as well as the tiny one including the teeny tiny dollhouse you've added to accompany the tiny Christmas tree wanted to be placed in this room. The SCH looks as if it was coming home to a place being built just for it. And the whole atmosphere of this room is so lovely now with this special project being a true eyecatcher. And of course your awesome embroideries are another perfect addition... the stool fits so well into this room and of course seeing Lady Cassandra with her (or your? *smile*) tapestry stand brings this room to life. Yes, the room has come together in the best way. And although you had other plans in the beginning this is one thing I like so much about our hobby - things have their own dynamics like some kind of a building process evolution. ;O) And before I leave for today I still need to mention that the pictures with the lights on are not only beautiful, but to me they create an atmosphere both cozy and magical.

    Hugs

  7. I'm speechless! Your teeny-tiny house with its nano house are incredible. Only you can create these tiny wonders.
The room, Lady Cassandra seeming so relaxed at her work, the lights, create a cozy and warm atmosphere.
    And, the photos are great.
    Hugs, Drora

  8. Me encantan las casitas tan pequeñas porque a pesar de su tamaño se puede soñar con ellas y poner muchos detalles.
Esas dos tuyas son una maravilla.
    Un saludo

    It's amazing.
